The Brent Geese have arrived…

So what, I hear you asking? That’s fair enough because I would have done too, but then I started to learn the Way of the Harbour, and that the Brent Geese migrate down from Russia to spend the cold weather overwintering on Poole Harbour. They’re about a week ahead of the cold front. We saw them arriving and trying to land on Tuesday, and guess what? The weather forecast is now showing a drastic drop. A lot of people down at the Harbour are far more accurate than any weather forecast can ever be, so of course, I borrowed their wisdom for Windy Bay and added to it with my own. At the moment, the catcast is three on the most comfortable chairs in the living room. They are firmly asleep, which suggests that this is a good day to be indoors.
I stuck my nose outside, and I agree, so I sorted out my warmer jumpers and I will sweep up the last of autumn leaves when they've had a day or two to dry out. The change in the weather is a good thing in some ways, because it gets rid of the mould spores and the flowering plants that are clinging on so my husband and son will feel infinitely better. It will be dry and there will be more sunshine, but there will be frosts and icy mornings, and the lake is low, so it may well freeze, like it did this time last year.

It’ll be lovely to walk, and lovelier still to arrive home for hot chocolate, or to snuggle indoors and write or sort out. What’s it like where you are? And stay safe and as happy as you can wherever it is.
And today's picture is of our Brent Geese visitors, exploring their temporary home. They and all the other migrant birds are very welcome and I promise I'll share them with you.
