Well, not exactly sunshine, but I’ll happily take what I can get after having more than 80mm of rain (3.15 inches) in the last four days especially when it means that I can get out for a walk. The winter ponds are back on the reclaimed land that makes up Harbourside and they’ll get larger and larger as the weather turns cooler and cooler. The trees are beginning to change to their autumn glory and I was just on the right side of cool in a sweatshirt over a t-shirt and very glad to get home for frothy coffee and the chocolate orange and nut rocky road that I made for my husband’s birthday cake.
It’s reminded me that it’s time to pack away my embroidery out and about kit and my water bottle and get out my big camera and my camera bag as well as my Goldilocks one that I use in summer (not too big and not too small.) Then I shall be ready for the arrival of the migrating winter birds. I’m home (it’s Monday as I type this) and charging batteries all ready to go and stalk the SS Waverley, which is the world’s last sea going paddle steamer and you can find out more about it here - https://waverleyexcursions.co.uk/ I love seeing these historic ships leaving the harbour so I shall be there on Wednesday come rain or shine and I’ll share the images with you.
Like Amy Hammond, in her series of cosy mysteries, I spent a lot of my life saying ‘someday I shall..’ Sadly life spent a lot of time being so busy that my someday list never seemed to get any shorter. It hasn’t really got any shorter now but I am aware that I deserve to do things for myself as well and need to learn to make sure that I do them without feeling guilty. One of those things is improving my photography, so last year I decided to get on and do it as part of my regular exercise. Which reminds me, the cormorants are back. I think I counted four this morning, but I wouldn’t want to bet my life on it because they’re sneaky little birds. There was a beautiful murmuration of starlings as well but I haven’t got good enough to photograph those yet. Right now, Corfe Castle is so much easier because it doesn’t fly off, so here it is…
Also here are this weeks special offers, all at 99p in the Uk and 99c in the US.
There are 3 of the earlier books from the Amy Hammond series, which are Sweet Revenge, Ghost of Christmas Past and The Past is Always With us. The sweet shop in Sweet Revenge is based on a gorgeous one called Truly Scrumptious that's just off Poole Quay or online as the Pink Sugar Mouse.I hope you appreciate that I carefully tested the sweeties and fudge before writing about them. Accuracy is so important, isn’t it?
Then there are two books from the Shadows series that I write as Eleanor Neville and that I am thoroughly enjoying weaving into my Tia Brown books. If you’ve enjoyed meeting Simon Jones the doctor in the recent Amy books then you might well enjoy Cynics Way and Warrior’s Way. There is sex and a little more violence in these books, but nothing graphic, mainly because I hate it…
Have a good week till we meet again on Sunday. By then, I may well be gloating about the new shelves in my larder. Ah, the exciting life of a writer…
