Indoors again…

And thinking about heroes and heroines and all those who have the courage to say ‘No. You are not doing it’ and stand up to the people who have the power and aren’t using it fairly or legally. You might well call them rebels as well, and one of the main themes of my writing is that point where someone says ‘I’ve had enough. I’m going to change…’ Often that change is forced on them and they find, as I try to remind myself, that the best revenge is not to be like those people.

The storms and seeing the ships that take shelter in Poole Harbour also make me think about how important finding and being a shelter is. The port is currently full of ships that can’t be at sea or get home to their home port and the Seaman’s Mission exists to help them. There’s a gorgeous converted horse box that sells coffee and cake that you can read about here. https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/24854176.mobile-poole-bakery-business-trader-week/ She donates a proportion of her profits to the Seamans Mission and I play my part with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake whenever I deserve a treat!

Sometimes, you see, you can’t change the world but you can change a tiny bit of it. I’m in the third year of my resolution to tread more lightly on the world and indulge my champagne tastes on a lemonade budget by buying clothes in charity shops and on eBay. Pre-loved clothes let me buy beautiful things that still have loads of wear in them and renovating old furniture does the same thing. If we save the world by reducing landfill one piece at a time then we’ll still all get there together!

I also read as much as I can on my Kindle, which leads me neatly round to this week’s special offers which are 99p in the UK and 99c in the US. This week’s are all six of the Lavender House series which are House of Dreams, Ghost of Dreams, Ghost of A Chance, A Time to Fight, Sunshine and Shadow and my sneaky favourite, Love Always. They’re set around an old house close to the sea which has been converted to flats along with the old stables and cottages. What residents don’t always realise when they move in is that they come complete with a ghost who’s determined that they won’t make the mistakes that she did, and her story is told in ‘Love, Always.’ Some of the characters then pop up in the Harbourside series which is set in the same area.

I haven’t been out so that’s it for today, but here’s a picture of the coffee horsebox by the Fisherman’s Haven in Poole Harbour. I think that haven is a lovely word because it means a place of safety or a refuge and we all need and deserve one of those don’t we?
