Dear Lord, what a few days…

Okay, so let’s start with an apology if I’m not especially coherent. My daughter went to the hospital on Wednesday, believing her broken wrist was healing. It wasn’t, so she needed an operation, but they couldn’t say which operation, and we played musical chairs around the hospital for a few hours before we were sent home and told they’d ring us next week. Being autistic made this worse, but at lunchtime, oh, Dear Lord, things started happening. A truly lovely lady from the day surgery team rang up to ask if she could be there for 7.15am on Thursday because they’d sneak her in at the front of the list. She was a bit overwhelmed because things were changing too quickly for her to keep up with. So was I, but I am Mummy the Monster Slayer, so I took over and explained that she was autistic. ‘Then she’ll need a side room for quiet,’ the amazing lady said.
I was close to happy tears all through Thursday morning because I never once had to explain what she needed. They made ‘above and beyond’ look like a starting point, and she coped amazingly well because they were amazing. I know I keep using that word, but I can’t find a better one. Now she’s been wired back together, and she knows what she’s facing. She knows what they did and why it’ll hurt and feel odd and they kept telling her to be proud of how she was coping. When I tried to thank them, they shrugged and said, ‘That’s what we do.’ There is hope for the world while there are people like this in it, and a lot of my heroes and heroines are now going to be medics, nurses, porters and administrators.
So, onwards and upwards, and some good news for you. Students at Bournemouth University, where my husband used to work, have coped well with a Godzilla attack, and no, I haven’t been on my daughter’s painkillers! Here it is https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy71kmg7405o It happened in the car park where my husband used to park, but I’m glad to be able to say it didn’t happen when he was there. Obviously, being a hero, he could scare away Godzilla. Or at least it’s obvious in Dorset, because it’s a special place.
On top of that, the ospreys have come back safely, and we hope they’ll breed again, and the Hussy from Rutland hasn’t tried to steal our local girl’s mate this time. You’ll find the details of that one here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c78rxldlkzvo
So yes, it’s been another eventful week, but isn’t it a nice world? Yes, there are some loudmouthed idiots out there who can’t play nicely, but there’s so much good. And here’s a nice picture of a very enterprising starling who did get fed by another nice person. See you on Tuesday, and I’m really hoping to be bored in the meantime. I think it might be fun…
