Not much is happening but there's a squirrel up the sycamore tree and bad language coming from Tom Cat Willow when I ask him to leave it in peace. Catling and Lucy were far better about their language but just as determined not to let it escape. (That’s short for Lucyfurr Morningstar because I consciously adopted her rather than her gradually becoming part of the household as Catling did. Her name used to be ‘Demon’ but I couldn’t call such a lovely cat that) Even the little ginger cat from the other side of the lane that runs along the back of my house came to see if he could help, and ducked his head deferentially to Catling who is very much pride leader. She licked his head and allowed him to observe from the top of next door's shed, so she obviously thinks he’s less trouble than her son. With her son she operates on the principle of ‘thwack, what have you been doing’ because he’s bound to have done something. And usually, I’m sad to say, she’s right.
We all know men like that, don’t we? And they make great heroes because they never mean to cause any harm. They simply can’t resist seeing what happens if they push a limit because they don't think limits apply to them. Peter Cunningham in my Amy Hammond series is one like that and so is his young sidekick Luke Grant. You can catch up with them on the fifth of September in Crazy for Death which is extra special to me because it’s the first book I’ve taken the cover picture for.
That’s why today’s picture is of the crazy quilt that Amy’s making in the book and which I’ve just finished. In the background you can see the bedroom that I’ve been turfing out and buying remote control candles for. Much to my delight, two different sets use the same control so I can raise it as if it’s a magic wand and say ‘lumus’ or ‘fiat lux’ as I remember my Latin and be rewarded with soft gentle light to curl up with when I’m having some quiet time and resting my awkward joints which aren’t playing nicely at the moment.
I’ve also made the first of my fruit cake recipes because I’m trying to experiment more and my dear husband likes fruit cake. I like his help with jobs so this way everyone’s happy.
With any luck, I’ll have more exciting things to talk about on Wednesday, but till then have fun, take care and stay safe if you’ve got the storms like we have.
