And the sun shone…

First and foremost, here is the Not So Little Master, starting to grow up. He’s now bigger than the crow that snatched him a few weeks ago, and you can just see the mark on his chest but his proper feathers are coming through. I think that counts as a happy ending, don’t you?

We loved the Victory In Europe Commemoration Service at Poole War Memorial on VE Day and I got goosebumps all down my spine when the bugler played the last post and the old soldiers and all those who served in their ways laid wreaths.

And then, because freedom was what they fought for, we went to see the baby birds and saw cygnets, baby moor hens, ducklings and goslings. All of them doing well, and recognising a pair of mugs when they see one. One cygnet broke away from his brothers and sisters and Dad (His Mum, Lucky, was out on the freshwater lake having a wash at the time.) Anyway, he took the view that if anyone was going to be cooed at and fussed over, it was going to be him (I know that he could be a her, but he felt like a him to me.) A goose hissed at him. He arched his stubby little neck, waved the very beginning of his wings and hissed, just like his Daddy. Goodness, Punky looked proud, and I enjoyed watching him feeding from my daughter’s hand just as Punky once did.

Today we went recipe hunting along the harbour and came back with ideas for fish finger baguettes, ploughman's lunches and ham and red Dorset cheese baguettes. All simple, yet somehow you don’t think of doing them.

My daughter is experimenting with a cycle of ice cream coloured dinosaurs for her art degree, so I self-sacrificingly tried Marshfield’s salt caramel ice cream with fudge pieces in it to help her. Then we went and found a mermaid's tail, because you do, don’t you?

Or at least you do if you’re lucky enough to live in Poole, so have fun till we meet again on Tuesday and thanks so much to all the friends I haven’t met yet who’ve made this possible over the last 3 years. I think I’m feeling like a proper writer!
