For some reason, it seemed like a good idea to go for hand made presents this year. It seemed to fit the zeitgeist, as the clever Germans call the spirit of the time. Also, being practical, it was a chance to spread the joy of quilting, because there are some households (not mine, of course…) that don’t have a handmade quilt to snuggle under on a cold night.
The problem is, from my point of view, that I’ve been quilting for more than forty years, so I , ahem, have quite a few quilts. I change them to suit the season, obviously, but the fact remains that there are a lot of them. So, this year I diversified, and now I have a lot of cushion covers! Currently I’m into making wall hangings and small but heavily quilted quilts, but I’m wandering off the topic. (And what else is new, I hear you ask…)
But, as Amy Hammond would be the first to tell you, it’s a wonderful hobby. You relax, you create, and you snuggle all safe and warm. In a few weeks time a lot of my friends and family will also be able to snuggle under a quilt that was made with love. And since I am a romantic writer, being slushy is practically in my job description, so I’m going to believe that the love I felt as I made them will wrap round them like a hug.
What do you do to relax? Let me know because my husband thinks I might like a new hobby in 2023…
And here is Lord Willow, comfort testing a quilt for me. He'll let me know how comfy it is when he wakes up!
