Meeting an old friend

And here he is. U676. Also known as the Little Master. Also known as the gosling who got snatched by a crow on a day when I was fed up with the universe trampling all over the little people. I’d like to be able to say that I channelled one of my heroines, but in fact I was just plain cross as I yelled at the crow, who was so stunned that he dropped the Little Master from ten feet or so up. He landed on the road and I thought it wasn’t going to be a happy ending, but it’s not much of a spoiler alert to say that it was, because here he is, all grown up and still convinced that I rescued him, so he owns me.

I think the Chinese have a proverb about that, but he’s quite a nice goose, with a tendency to hiss at people who get in his way. So has Punky the swan who I also rescued when he got a fish hook in his jaw and who’s currently sitting on his clutch of eggs to give his mate Lucky a break.

It can’t be my fault, though, because Perky, the male swan we rescued while calming down his mate Poppet, two years ago now, is a much nicer swan. Poppet, on the other hand, isn’t the sort of bird you mess around twice. And here they are, and if I was slushy, which of course I am, I'd say they were very much a pair.

I’ve been working on the first of a trilogy of present-day ‘Shadow’ romantic thrillers, which I write as Eleanor Neville because they’re a bit darker, so I’m in that sort of mood now. I’m sure I’m not the only person who’d like to think that there are people working behind the scenes to keep us safe, or that the deserving will get happy endings and the undeserving won’t. I m not sure what the ambivalent get. Perhaps a chance at redemption? We could all use that, couldn’t we?

Till then, it’s now less than a month till Writers Day on the eighth of May, which celebrates four years of writing, so if you’ve any questions you’d like answering, please get in touch using the contact form here. Failing that, the new recipe section goes live then, so you’ll be able to read the books and try some of the food. I hope you enjoy this weekend, whatever you do and I’ll see you on Tuesday, when I’m hoping nothing much will have happened because I’ve had enough of excitement!
